Surin Elephant Village  ( หมู่บ้านช้าง )

 

This elephant village at Ban Ta Klang on Highway No. 214 (Chom Phra-Ta Tum) can be reached by going to Km. 36 and left for 22 kilometres. The locals here are called the Suai people. They are skilled in capturing, training and raising elephants. An elephant museum here displays a complete elephant skeleton, its organs, tools used to capture elephants, elephant-raising techniques, and the history and development of Surin elephants.

Surin is the land of elephant. Located in
Tha-Klang Village, belong to the Suai or Krui
group,a group of people traditionally renowned
for their skill in capturing, training and raising
elephants.They feed them as friends. Especially
in the 3rd week of November, Surin Province will have the elephant
round-up.

You can enjoy and see the biggest elephant parade, including buffet and show.

Burapharam Temple or Wat Burapharam (วัดบูรพาราม)

Burapharam Temple or Wat Burapharam (วัดบูรพาราม) is a very old Buddhist temple in Surin. Built in Thonburi Monarchy, it is
approximately 200 years old, the same age as Surin city itself. It has been
upgraded to be a Royal Temple since  1st Febuary 1977 and held most sacred by the locals.

This  ancient  temple  was  apparently  constructed  by  Phraya  Surin  Phakdi  Si  Narong  Changwang  (Chiang  Pum)  about  200 years  ago  in  the  Thonburi  or early  Rattanakosin  periods.  Luang  Pho  Chi,  the  Buddha  statue  in  the  posture  of  subduing  mara,  is  enshrined  in  the  Wiham.  This  statue,  probably  completed  during  the  temple  construction,  is  held  most  sacred  by  the  local.

Inside  the  temple  is  the  museum  of  the   late  Phra  Rat  Wutthachan  (Luang  Pu  Dun  Adulo),  a highly  venerated  monk  in  meditation.  He  was  a  disciple  of  the  renowned  Phra  A – chan  Man  Phurithatta,  and  once  taught  meditation  to  Phra  A – chan  Fan  Acharo.  His  statute,  remains,  photo,  and  personal  belongings  are  kept  inside  the  museam.

Ban Tha sawan Silk village

Thasawang Silk Village is located 10 kms out of Surin city.

Located in Tambon Tha Sawang, the village has a weaving plant in ancient style. Silk woven here is produced from very fine thread of silk, dyed naturally, and woven with delicate pattern from the past. The village produces also ancient style cloth called Pha Yok Thong, which is woven from pure silver line and golden-coloured silk.
How to get there: The village is 8 kilometres from Surin City. Motorist can across the railway, opposite to Surin Plaza, and keeps going to the intersection. Turn left into Ko Loi – Mueang Ling Road.
